Kevin Tynan currently serves as a Circuit Court Judge for the 17th Judicial Circuit, which encompasses all of Broward County. He began his judicial service on January 1, 2024, after more than thirty years as a successful practicing attorney. Kevin’s initial assignment was resolving domestic violence cases and was the sole Broward County judge assigned to review Risk Protection Orders. On July 1, 2025, Kevin was reassigned to a family court division, helping families resolve the dissolution of their marriage, inclusive of critical decisions regarding matters related to the couple’s children and not just personal property issues. Family court also encompasses, paternity actions and the very enjoyable cases involving adoptions.Kevin’s legal career began in 1988, when he was hired as an Assistant Staff Counsel for The Florida Bar (the entity that prosecutes legal ethics complaints against lawyers). He spent his last two and a half years with The Florida Bar, as the Manager of its Fort Lauderdale Office, where he supervised five other lawyers, a staff of over twenty employees and a yearly budget for the office of over a million dollars.After leaving employment with The Florida Bar, Kevin spent a little more than a year with good friends in a Fort Lauderdale litigation law firm that handled civil and criminal matters. At that time, he also began a practice representing lawyers, and law students who sought to become lawyers. An opportunity arose in the fall of 2001, to start a law firm with a good friend from law school, and they successfully practiced law together for more than 22 years in Broward County, Florida. While this law firm was retained for a broad range of legal matters, Kevin’s partner primarily represented clients in probate and guardianship matters, and Kevin primarily represented legal professionals with ethical or licensure concerns, as well as serving an expert witness on legal ethics.During his time as a practicing attorney, Kevin was lead counsel on more than four hundred trials and numerous administrative proceedings before the Florida Board of Bar Examiners, and other state agencies. Kevin was privileged to have been able to personally participate in Oral Argument before the Florida Supreme Court, with numerous published opinions appellate cases before that Court. He also had an opportunity to participate in an Oral Argument before the Federal Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, which was concluded by a published opinion.Kevin was admitted to The Florida Bar in the fall of 1987, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida in 1989 and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals in 2021.Kevin Tynan has been civically active throughout his adult life, inclusive of being a member of a Kiwanis Club, a president and multiple year board member of The Emerald Society of Broward County, service on his HOA board, and service on certain city or governmental boards or entities. He also participated in numerous election campaigns, assisting friends who sought public office.Kevin attended and graduated from a Miami-Dade County High School in 1977. He attended college locally, receiving a B.A. in History and Political Science from Barry University in 1981. Kevin is also a cum laude graduate of the Nova Center for the Study of Law, where he received his Juris Doctorate in 1987.Most importantly, Kevin has been married for 42 years, and together with his wife has raised two wonderful adult children, who now have their own careers.
